We assist in sending missionaries to spread the gospel of Christ and in building schools and churches. Our mission extends globally, helping countries to proclaim the gospel to their own people.
The official mission department was established in our church in 2000 when Pastor Williams transformed the outreach ministry into the world mission department. The objective was to engage in mission work beyond our local church community. The first mission trip, led by Rev. Miller, was to Haiti, with church members participating. We sent barrels filled with food and clothing for children.
Our focus shifted to Liberia due to the genocide and the closure of schools there. Our aim was to open a school in Liberia, and we raised funds through concerts, bake sales, and other activities. The first concert for Project Liberia took place at Weaver High School in 2002. The school in Liberia, named ‘The Norma Williams Academy,’ was completed and staffed, and Pastor and Sister Williams, along with other mission members, attended its dedication.
Over the years, we also supported projects in Ghana, including building a church in West Africa.
Next, we focused on the Boys Club Project in Jamaica. In 2006, the Young Men’s Development Center Project commenced in Jamaica, providing skills, training, and a spiritual foundation for young men. The work was divided into two phases, the first involving repairs to the kitchen, pantry, welding area, and dormitory. We successfully renovated the kitchen with new cabinets, an industrial refrigerator, and a stove. The Church of God in Jamaica is using the facility. In 2012, a team of 21 short-term missionaries assisted with cleaning, painting, and other tasks. We held Vacation Bible School (VBS) and open-air services, leading many to faith. New converts were entrusted to local pastors for spiritual growth.
We provided financial support for a church’s rent in the Virgin Islands under Bishop Ishmael Charles (Tortola) and sent funds to Nain, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, for roof and wall repairs. Bishop and First Lady Ramsey presented these during their 2013 trip, where we also conducted VBS, distributed school supplies, and held evangelism meetings.
Our first fundraising fashion show was a success. In 2015, a team of 18 missionaries traveled to Brazil for a mission trip, holding evangelism meetings and distributing clothing. Proceeds from the fashion show allowed us to financially support three churches in Brazil, with ongoing support for one church’s building project.
Currently, we are supporting churches in Bangladesh and missionaries in Nigeria and Malaysia with monthly financial contributions. We receive regular updates from them, showcasing their resilience despite daily challenges.
In 2017, under the leadership of Dr. Johnathan Ramsey and First Lady Ramsey, we embarked on Project Haiti. Haiti has suffered repeated hurricanes, prompting our decision to provide aid. We organized a fashion show to fund the trip, which received overwhelming support from the church and community. A benefit concert, directed by Brother Steven Wilson, also contributed.
A team of 30, including Bishop Noel and ministers from Boston and Florida, joined us on a 10-day trip to Haiti. We brought 35 barrels of food, clothing, medical supplies, and personal items to assist on the ground.
In 2019, 38 of us traveled to Faridpur, Bangladesh and provided medical care to over 1,200 people. As we served the locals, we realized that they needed more than just medical relief. The children in this community were deprived of accessible education. They were unable to go to school because it was far away, and their families just couldn’t afford the cost of daily transportation and food. Recognizing the significant need, our leadership researched and prayed to determine the best way to support the students. Subsequently, we commenced fundraising efforts to construct a school.
We purchased a parcel of land and broke ground on the Rehoboth Community School in 2021. The school was dedicated in 2022. Currently, we have 116 students and 5 teachers. Since 2022, we have added a kitchen and hired a chef to provide hot meals, which many of the children in this community would not otherwise receive.
The Rehoboth Community School benefits not only school age children, but provides employment to many individuals. We envision it becoming an economic staple to the community with the potential to impact future generations.
